Methodology

Makoons Pre School classes focus on :

Social and emotional development to foster a child’s sense of self, enhance his or her ability to make friends, and create openness to learning.

Physical development to strengthens large and small muscles, coordinates movement, and improve overall health and growth.

Creative expression and aesthetic development to foster a child’s appreciation for the art, music, movement, dramatic play, and visual arts.

Cognitive development to promote intellectual growth and school success. When children use their language, literacy, mathematical and scientific thinking, and social studies cognitive skills to think, problem solve, and communicate, they are making sense of their world.

Art Area – Objectives for Children’s Learning

Objectives for Socio-Emotional Development

  1. Express feelings (selecting bright colors for a painting to match a playful mood).
  2. Learn to channel frustration and anger in a socially acceptable way (punching and pounding clay).
  3. Assert individuality (drawing a pumpkin that differs in color and design from the traditional).
  4. Experience pride (making a mobile that is hung in the classroom).
  5. Share and cooperate with others (working together on making a group mural).

Objectives for Cognitive Development

  1. Enhance creativity (combining materials and textures for a collage in a unique way).
  2. Develop an understanding of cause and effect (observing what happens when blue paint is added to yellow).
  3. Label shapes and objects (painting a yellow circle and calling it a “sun”).
  4. Solving problems (figuring out how to get a mobile to balance).
  5. Develop planning skills (determining which color finger paints to assemble before starting work).

Objectives for Physical Development

  1. Develop small muscle skills (coloring with markers).
  2. Refine eye-hand coordination (pouring tempera into an easel paint can).
  3. Learn directionality (painting a circle with one continuous brush stroke).
